In 2019, planning permission was obtained from the London Borough of Croydon, subject to GLA Stage II referral and signing of the S106 Agreement for the redevelopment of this site for 60 homes and community and retail space.

The proposals were of particular interest to the Council due to the existing building being listed as an Asset of Community Value, as well as providing accommodation for a popular local music venue which is due to vacate the site and its proximity to Surrey Street Market. Significant work with local residents, Officers and Members, was necessary, as well as a carefully considered planning strategy, in order to secure the Council's support.
